Halos, Dodgers are both winners

It doesn’t happened often – at least not recently – but the Los Angeles-Orange County Major League Baseball teams are both looking strong and spirited after Tuesday’s games.

The Angels defeated the New York Yankees in Anaheim 5-1 to square their record at 48-48 and move into a tie for third place Seattle Mariners in the American League West.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, continued to pour cold water on the previously hot Baltimore Orioles 10-3 at Camden Yards. The win allowed the Blue Crew to stay 1.5 games ahead of the surging San Francisco Giants in the National League West. The Bay Area team has won eight straight games.

In Anaheim, the home team led from the first inning and allowed the visitors only two runs. Mickey Moniak continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and his 11th home run of the season. He’s now batting .336.

Shohei Ohtani had a run-scoring triple.

Patrick Sandoval (5-7) pitched a near-gem, working 7.1 innings and allowing just two hits and one earned run. He struck out seven and walked three.

In Maryland, the Dodgers (55-39) blew the game open with five runs in the second and sealed the deal with four in the fourth. Will Smith was 4-for-6 at the plate. Freddie Freeman was 3-for-4 and Jason Outman hit his ninth homer of the season, a three-run shot.

Michael Grove (2-2) got the win, pitching five innings and giving up five hits and one earned run. He struck out four and walked two.
