There’s a new sponsor, but the long-time US Open of Surfing will return to Huntington Beach starting Saturday and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 6.
Now it’s the Wallex US Open of Surfing Presented by Pacifico and will feature world-class surfing, product demos and samples from action sports industry brands.
The event is free to the public and will be held on the sand south of the city pier.
The opening ceremony and blessing of the waves will be on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. An Air Force flyover will take place from 8 to 8:15 a.m.
The new sponsor, Wallex, is a digital payment platform, replacing Vans, which bowed out after the Huntington Beach City Council voted to not allow the LGBTQ “Pride” flag to be displayed at City Hall.
There’s more surfing action in Huntington Beach at that time. The 2023 Huntington Beach Longboard Classic will be conducted those days as well. All of this is under the sanction of the World Surf League.
