Two women from Los Angeles were arrested this week when a “shopping spree” in Huntington Beach turned out to have a heavy price.
According to Jessica Cuchilla, public information officer for the HBPD, the women walked into a retail store in the 7000 block of Edinger Avenue at Beach Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. They allegedly took some merchandise and left the store without paying.
However, arriving HBPD officers saw the pair walking to a different store and saw their vehicle being driven to a nearby lot, where it parking in a handicapped-accessible stall.
Inside the car were several bags full of new clothing. After some investigation it was determined that the items had been stolen from a nearby Huntington Breach store and the charges against the two were increased from petty theft to grand theft.
The driver of their vehicle was found to not have a valid driver’s license. She was cited and sent on her way “on foot.” The car was towed for using a handicapped-accessible stall without a handicap placard.
Arrested and booked into Huntington Beach Jail were Erika Jackson, 22, and Olivia Khaliah Jones, 26, both of Los Angeles.
