The first of several special meetings of the Huntington Beach City Council to consider potential amendments to the city charter on the March 5, 2024 state primary election ballot will be held on Thursday.
Speakers at these special meetings will be limited to 90 seconds per person unless the number of people wishing to speak “warrants reducing the time allowance.”
Proposed changes in the city charter discussed earlier include:
- reducing the qualifications for serving as city clerk;
- taking the conducting of city elections from the county registrar and operating it by the city;
- increase the number of in-person voting locations in the city;
- allow for poll-watchers at ballot drop-off locations;
- changing the election cycle for city clerk and city treasurer from presidential election years (2024, 2028) to gubernatorial years (2026, 2030).
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 2000 Main St. The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
