With their 6-3 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the Northwest on Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ “magic number” to clinch the National League West division title is two.
The Dodgers were outhit 11-8 but scored three of their runs on homers and a fourth on a triple. It was Miguel Rojas’ fourth home run and James Outman launched his 20th. Max Muncy tripled.
Bobby Miller (10-3) struck out seven batters and walked only two. He yielded six hits and three earned runs.
The Dodgers (89-57), who lead the division by 13.5 games, can clinch on Saturday when they face the M’s in Seattle with Clayton Kershaw (12-4) making the start.
Fallen Angels keep falling
While other teams in Major League Baseball are struggling to grab a playoff spot, the Los Angeles Angels are … just struggling.
The game was not exactly close, with the visiting team leading 4-1 after seven innings. But they blew the case open with seven runs in the top of the eighth.
Overall, the Tigers outhit the Angels 15-6. The only runs the home team scored were on home runs by David Fletcher and Jared Walsh.
The loss went to Griffin Canning (7-7), who was touched for eight hits and four runs in six innings, but the real damage was done to Jhonathan Diaz, who – in one third of an inning – was lit up for seven hits, seven earned runs. He also walked two batters.
