Gaetz vs. Speaker McCarthy

REP. MATT GAETZ of Florida (Wikipedia).

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-California) knew he was risking a challenge to his position as leader of his party in the House of Representatives when he agreed to a bi-partisan deal to avoid a government shutdown and on Monday it arrived.

Rep. Matt Goetz (R-Florida) acted to remove McCarthy under a “motion to vacate the chair” that would require a majority to pass.

McCarthy has been the frequent target of “hard-right” conservatives who demanded concessions from McCarthy in order to get and hold his position as speaker, according to the Associated Press.

The weekend’s bipartisan action triggered the action.

Trump and business associates are charged with knowingly falsifying the value of his property by perhaps as much as $2.2 billion. If convicted, Trump could be fined as much as $250 million and receive a ban on doing business in the State of New York.

As almost everyone expected, the Los Angeles Angels showed the clubhouse door to manager Phil Nevin on Monday. The search for a new field general will start immediately, according to team management.

The tenure of Nevin, like for Joe Maddon the season before, started with promise but took a disastrous turn with long losing streaks and injuries that sidelined many players.

The result was two consecutive 73-89 seasons, with this year’s team slipping a notch from third place in the American League West to fourth.

Nevin finished his tenure with the Halos with a 119-149 record, which was a winning percentage of .444.
