League action gets interesting

LEAGUE ACTION starting to get interesting (Shutterstock).

The good news for area high school football teams is that after one week of league action – in most leagues, anyway – half of them are in first place. On the other hand, well … there’s still a lot of games to play.

The schedule for Week Seven includes what could be some mismatches: Loara (0-6) at La Quinta (4-2) comes to mind. Among the most interesting games are those on Friday.

Santiago (3-3, 0-1) will visit Bolsa Grande (4-2, 1-0) in a key Garden Grove League matchup. A loss by the Cavaliers may knock them out of the GGL title race; a win by the Matadors would give them a leg up in that campaign, and set up the Oct. 13 vs. Rancho Alamitos contest as the game that contests the title.

Rancho will have something to say about that, provided the Vaqs beat Los Amigos on Friday. And so will La Quinta. This year in the GGL, it’s complicated.

Here’s the schedule this week for games involving teams from our West Orange County area. Marina, Ocean View and Westminster are idle.

Unless otherwise noted, games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Dates, locations and opponents are subject to change without notice, so check with the host school.
