Weed gets burnt on 4-3 vote

Several cities in Orange County are in the business of allowing the selling, cultivation and manufacturing of cannabis products, but Huntington Beach won’t be one of them.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, the city council turned thumbs down on getting into the “weed” market. The vote was four to three against adoption of a resolution authorizing the acceptance of $325,000  in grant funds from the California Department of Cannabis Control to assist in the development of a “cannabis retail access program.”

Voting to forgo the money were Mayor Tony Strickland, Mayor Pro Tem Gracey Van Der Mark and Councilmembers Casey McKeon and Pat Burns.

Voting to accept were Councilmembers Natalie Moser, Rhonda Bolton and Dan Kalmick.
