A protracted war between Hamas and Israel may be in the offing, as Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu warned of a “long and difficult” conflict on Saturday.

Israel, he said, has moved toward sending ground groups into Gaza to supplement attacks from the air and sea. “We will be the victors,” he promised.

Since most of the Gaza Strip is highly-dense residential areas, difficult and costly “house-to-house” combat between Hamasmilitants and Israeli troops is expected.

Following Friday’s bombardment which knocked out most electronic communication in Gaza, considerable progress was made Saturday to restore some service.

Pence drops out of GOP race

MIKE PENCE, ex-vice president.

Former vice president Mike Pence announced on Saturday that he would end his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

“It’s become clear to me that this is not my time,” said Pence at a meeting with Jewish donors. Pence was vice president under Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021 and a strong supporter, but broke with the former president over efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Pence, like other contenders, struggled to attract many supporters and much campaign cash because of the popularity of Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination.
