A public hearing on a request to establish the Bolsa Chica Senior Living Community Specific Plan to enable the redevelopment of an approximately 3.10-acre project site into a new five-story senior living facility is on the agenda for Tuesday night’s Huntington Beach City Council meeting.

The facility would have 202 total units, an underground parking garage, and landscape improvements with on-site alcohol sales and consumption. Also, the 298,000 sq. ft facility would have a maximum height of 65 ft. The proposed location is the southwest corner of Bolsa Chica Street and Warner venue.

The conditional use permit was appealed by Councilmember Pat Burns and Brian Thienes. In a public hearing at the Sept. 26, 2023, planning commission meeting, several speakers supported a new senior living community to provide unique senior housing opportunities given the present state of the commercial property market.

The remainder opposed the proposed project, expressing concerns about its height, location, and perceived impacts on traffic and neighborhood compatibility.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in its council chambers at 2000 Main St. (at Yorktown Avenue).
