Relocation benefits increased

The first amendment of the emergency relocation benefits for people to be displaced by the upcoming Tina Pacific housing project was approved unanimously on Tuesday night by the Stanton City Council.

The first amendment includes raising the compensation amount solely related to the administration process of the Tina-Pacific project. Overall, the project is still expected to stay on budget.

“We have people that deserve to be relocated,” said Mayor David Shawver.

Also on Tuesday, during a discussion on reviewing and updating the city’s cannabis ordinance, Shawver suggested the city add an extension for businesses to have extra time to get their business going before the expiration date at the end of November.

Councilmember Gary Taylor expressed confusion about the suggested extension.

“I will tell you that categorically, Gary, categorically, we have trouble getting people in some of the areas. We had several people applying three years ago, and if we were not to give an opportunity for the ones that are really interested in moving forward, there might not be any in the future,” said Shawver.

The council requested more information before moving forward with a decision.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the council is set for Tuesday, Nov. 28.
