The sale by delivery of medicinal cannabis was approved on Tuesday night by the Garden Grove City Council.
Voting 7-0, the council gave second and final approval to the ordinance, which brings the city into compliance with a new state law mandating that each municipality permit the delivery of marijuana-derived projects for doctor-recommended medical uses.
Tuesday’s action does not authorize the retail sale of cannabis from store fronts, colloquially know as “pot shops.” While the recreational use and sale of “weed” is legal in California, cities are given the choice of opting out of hosting such businesses. The ordinance goes into effect 30 days from adoption.
Also on Tuesday, the city council voted to amend water rates and to change the minimum age for the sale or purchase of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years old.
Next city council meeting will be on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
