Indictments on nine tax-related charges were lodged on Thursday against Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden. Three of the charges are felonies and six are misdemeanors.

He also faces federal firearms charges for allegedly being a drug user possessing a firearm. The tax charges refer to allegations that he failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes owed between 2016 and 2019.

If convicted on all charges, Hunter Biden could face up to 17 years in prison. His attorney said the charges were due to Special Counsel David Weiss of “bowing to Republican pressure.”

No safe places in Gaza?

As fierce combat between Israeli forces and Hamas militants continues, United Nations officials said there are no safe plazas in Gaza, and that 80 percent of the estimated 2.3 Gazans have been displaced or fled from their homes.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the situation was approaching a “humanitarian catastrophe” and called for a cease-fire.

The Al-Muwasi Humanitarian Safe Zone on the coast is said to have no running water or bathrooms and that humanitarian groups are missing and housing consists of tents without much protection from weather.

Weather: Fine late fall weather

Other parts of the nation – and their residents – should be envious of our West Orange County autumn weather. Temperature will linger in the 70s almost all the way to Christmas and while there won’t be a lot of sun, there won’t be much rain or wind. The forecast for Friday is for a daytime high of 70 with an overnight low of 50 under partly cloudy skies. On Saturday the high will rise to 78 (50) with mostly sunny conditions. Sunday sees the clouds return with a high of 79 (50).
