Look out for the ducks

  January typically is the time for New Year’s Resolutions. No, not for me … I don’t have a lot of success with them. But I have loads of talent in giving advice to other people, or municipalities.

  So here’s some tremendously valid and useful advice for ….

  Garden Grove: Frankly, things seem to be going well in the Big Strawberry. Even the homelessness issue may abate a bit as the new Central Cities (Garden Grove, Fountain Valley and Westminster) Navigation Center comes on line in 2024.

But there is the matter of … the ducks. The Civic Center Park (Euclid at Acacia Parkway) is home to many ducks and other water fowl, thanks to the lovely ponds and little water falls there.

The location of the park is where the new police station will be built, but we are promised a “new” park nearer to 7th Street and Stanford Avenue.

  I like the idea of a “new” park, but only if  it has the nice ambience of the existing one. Nothing is written in stone, but I believe that most Garden Grovers would agree with this sentiment: “Save the Ducks.”

  Westminster: This “All American City” isn’t very “all-anything,” divided politically by different factions within the Vietnamese community.

What would be useful in this election year to demonstrate civic solidarity would be for the city council to unite and get behind the half-cent sales tax proposal that seems absolutely necessary to keep the city from tumbling into insolvency.

  I know that “no tax increases” is a bedrock principle of many Orange County Republicans, but this is – or should be – a non-partisan issue.

  Good government doesn’t carry party labels. All for one, folks.
