Six of our West Orange County high school basketball teams started action this week in search of CIF-SS glory and now four remain.

Five played quarterfinal contests; one is in a pool play game against one of the most highly-ranked teams in the state of California.

On the girls side, Open Division A action will see Orangewood Academy (21-7) of Garden Grove facing Mater Dei (23-6), rated fifth in California.

In 4AA action on Wednesday, Pacifica (23-7) will host Newbury Park (24-6). In the 5AA bracket, Loara (20-8) will travel to Aldelanto (17-9).

On the boys’ side, Marina, Los Amigos and Rancho Alamitos are in the Elite Eight of their divisions, and played on Tuesday night.

In 2A the Vikings (23-7) took on Cypress (23-6) and defeated the Centurions 57-55.
They now will advance to the semifinal round on Friday against San Gabriel Academy.

In 5AA play, the Lobos (20-8) faced off against Firebaugh of Lynwood (15-11) and lost 65-51.

The Vaqueros (19-11) took on the Ontario Jaguars (17-4) and suffered a 56-30 defeat, ending what was otherwise a very successful season.
