A pedestrian was fatally injured when struck by an automobile Monday morning in Huntington Beach.
According to Jessica Cuchilla, public affairs officer for the HBPD, the accident took place after 6:30 a.m. on Heil Avenue west of Bradbury Lane.
Arriving officers found the pedestrian, a 57-year-old Huntington Beach resident, in the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a 2014 Mazda 6 – identified as a 61-year-old Huntington Beach resident – remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Impairment doesn’t appear to be a factor with the driver.
The investigation indicates the Mazda was traveling westbound on Heil in the left lane, just west of Bradbury. The pedestrian was in the roadway – not in a crosswalk – in the westbound traffic lanes.
It appears, say police, that the woman “may have been tending to ducks in the roadway when she was struck.” A second car, described as a white SUV, may be involved in the collision.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator at (714) 536-5670.
