Two high school softball teams from Garden Grove have moved into first place in their leagues as action heads into the second half of conference play.
Garden Grove High’s Argonauts hit a skid in March, losing five of seven. But the good ship Argo righted itself once Golden West League play started, reeling off five wins in a row.
The game that might decide the GWL title is on Wednesday, April 24 when the Argonauts (10-8 overall, 5-0 in league) visit Segerstrom (9-9-1, 5-1).
In the Empire League, Pacifica (18-2 and ranked 12th in the nation) hammered second place Cypress (15-9, 4-2) 7-0 on Thursday for the Mariners third straight win. In EL play, the M’s have outscored opponents 63-1.
Brynne Nally pitched six innings against the Centurions, yielding just two hits and no walks. She struck out nine batters.
Baseball action saw Huntington Beach (16-6) advance to the semifinals of the National High School Invitationals, losing on Friday 6-5 to Corona.
The Oilers defeated St. John’s Country Day 6-1 and Bishop Gorman 3-2 to reach the final four.
