The Los Angeles Angels have had such trouble scoring lately, it was probably inevitable that they burst forth eventually with a bunch of runs.
That happened Tuesday night as the Halos broke up a tie game and poured it on late, defeating the Kansas City Royals, 9-3.
That win snapped a three-game skid, and brought them into a tie with the fourth place Oakland A’s at 64-72.
After the Royals made it closer by scoring three in the bottom of the inning, the Orange County team slammed the door with a pair of runs in the ninth, thanks to a triple by Taylor Ward and a double by Jo Adell.
The win went to Taylor Anderson (10-11), who survived six innings despite giving up 12 hits, five runs and two walks. He struck out two.
For the Los Angeles Dodgers, it was a case of better late than never. The Blue Crew scored once in the seventh and three times in the eighth to defeat the Seattle Mariners 6-3 in Chavez Ravine and maintain their three-game lead in the National League West race over the second place San Diego Padres.
Jason Heyward’s three-run pinch hit home run in the eighth was the key hit for the Blue Crew (75-52). Earlier home runs by Gavin Lux and Max Muncy tied the game, setting the stage for J-Hey’s heroics.
Shohei Ohtani had a good night, going 2-for-5 with a single and a triple as well as a stolen base. Walker Buehler’s start was rocky, lasting four innings and giving up seven hits and three earned runs.
The win in relief went to Joe Kelly (1-0), who walked one and struck out one in the eighth.
The M’s loss kept them (64-63) five games back in the American League West behind the first place Houston Astros.
