Vice President Kamala Harris – now the Democratic presidential nominee –said in an interview on CNN that while she has changed her position on some issues, “my values haven’t changed.”

Also participating in the interview was her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president.

Harris supported the record of President Joe Biden on economic measures. The economy is an issue in which polls indicate former president Donald Trump has an advantage.

She did not reveal much about what she would do on “Day One”  if she was elected, but did repeat earlier statements in which she advocated an “opportunity economy” to help bring down consumer costs and give the parents of newborn children a $6000 tax credit.

In 2020, while running for the Democratic nomination, she supported a ban on the “fracking” method of drilling for oil. In the CNN interview she claimed she had never been in favor of such a prohibition.

She also appeared to back away from an earlier position that illegal borders crossings should be “decriminalized,” insisting now that there should be “consequences.”

Controversy over incident at Arlington

A wreath-laying ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery has turned into a controversy as a member of former president Donald Trump’s campaign staff is accused of an incident in which a cemetery official was “abruptly pushed aside.”

The event was intended to honor military service members who died in the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. But Army officials believe it was in actuality a political event, which is prohibited at the cemetery.

Members of the families present for the wreath ceremony had invited Trump to be present.

A TikTok video of the visit includes a voiceover of Trump blaming President Joe Biden for the “disaster” of the withdrawal.

The incident was reported to police, but the employee chose not to press charges. Trump later said that he was simply responding to a request by family members for a photograph with him.

Angels snap losing streak at seven

The long skid of the Los Angeles Angels ended Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the Motor City.

Crucial to ending the streak at seven defeats in a row were an RBI double by Mickey Moniak in the fourth and a two-run homer in the first by Zach Neto, his 20th round-tripper of the season. He became only the second Halo shortstop to hit 20 homers in a year, the second being Jim Fregosi.

The Angels (55-79) got a strong start from Jack Kochanowicz (2-3), who worked six innings, giving up five hits. He struck out four batters and walked none.

On Friday the team will be home in Anaheim to open a series against the Seattle Mariners.

Dodgers lead early, beat O’s 6-2

The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out to an early four-run lead and hung on for a 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.

With 14 hits, the Blue Crew was led by Austin Barnes, who singled and doubled and drove in two runs. Bobby Miller (2-3) started and got the win. He worked five innings, giving up two hits and three runs. He struck out three batters and walked three.

The Dodgers are now 80-64 and lead the National League West by four games over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
