The Shohei Show goes on

Shohei Ohtani put on another show Friday night, hitting what proved to be the game-winning home run in a 10-9 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and made some history while doing it.

Since becoming a member of the 40-40 club – a big league baseball player who has hit 40 home runs and stolen 40 bases – he’s added to his Hall of Fame credentials with three more dingers and three more swiped bases, one of each Friday at Chase Field.

With 27 games to go, he’s on track to be the first and only player to reach 50-50 status.

His performance was not just for his own glory; the Dodger (81-54) victory over the D-backs (76-59) gave the Blue Crew a five-game lead in the National League West.

The Los Angeles Angels – one game after breaking a seven-game losing streak – resumed their losing habits, falling 9-5 to the Seattle Mariners in Anaheim.

With five runs in the top of the first, the M’s took a lead they wouldn’t yield. The Angels got solo home runs from Taylor Ward (his 18th), Mickey Moniak (10th) and Brandon Drury (third) but hurt themselves with two errors and seven walks, resulting in five unearned Seattle runs. With the loss, the Halos are 55-80, four games out of fourth place in the American League West behind the Oakland A’s.
