With daytime high temperatures looking like basketball scores, our West Orange County area is clearly in the grip of a late summer heat wave.

The estimated high point Friday was 106 in Garden Grove, 104 in Westminster, 103 in Stanton and 90 in Huntington Beach.

There should, however be some relief over the weekend. Garden Grove’s predicted high (as of Friday afternoon) will slip to 95 on Saturday afternoon, with Westminster down to 92, Stanton to 94 and Huntington Beach will still stay around 90.

For those without air conditioning, there are city-sponsored “cooling centers” open this weekend in :

As always, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid being outside in the direct sunlight for extended periods of time and pay special attention to the needs of the elderly and pets.
