The man arrested in what appears to be an assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump had been on the grounds for 12 hours at the West Palm Beach gold course where the Republican presidential candidate was golfing before he was noticed by security.

According to the Associated Press, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested on federal firearms charges after he was spotted armed with a AK-style gun – with the signature curved “banana” clip of ammunition – about 400 to 500 yards from Trump.

The Secret Service stated that Routh nevertheless didn’t have a “clear line of sight” to shoot Trump and never fired his weapon.

The New York Times reports that the suspect has had political viewpoints ranging from right to left. He has written that he had voted once for Trump, but changed his mind and wrote in a self-published book that Iran was “free to assassinate Trump.”

Trump blames Democrats’ language

Former president Donald Trump on Monday blamed Democrats’ “highly inflammatory language” for him being “shot at,” according to United Press International.

Speaking of the man arrested at the golf course at the scene of what authorities call “an attempted assassination,” Trump said that “he believed the rhetoric of [President Joe] Biden and [Vice President Kamala] Harris, and he acted on it.”

Trump later spoke on the phone with Biden. “We had a very nice call,” said Trump. “It was about Secret Service protection.”

Angels lose, Dodgers romp

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 9-0. They broke open the game with six runs in the seventh inning, including a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman.  They got a  good four-inning start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-2), who yielded four hits. He struck out three batters and walked two.

The Blue Crew is now 89-61 and leads the National League West by 3.5 games over the San Diego Padres.
