Friday wasn’t a great night for our West Orange County high school football teams, with most of them suffering defeats. But there were a few bright lights.
In the marquee matchup of the night and a battle for the initial Alpha League title, Mission Viejo thumped Edison High 49-24. In one of the best outcomes of the night, Pacifica defeated Katella 42-0 and is in position to play for the Omicron League title against Portola next week.
The Mariners started the season 1-4, but have since won four games in a row.
Los Amigos, co-champs of the Garden Grove League last year, have clinched no worse than a tie for the Sigma League title. The Lobos blanked Santa Ana Valley 35-0 and have a 9-0 overall record and 4-0 in league.
They will play second place Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana (3-1) next week.
Anaheim (4-0, 7-2) won the Tango League title with a 35-18 victory over Bolsa Grande, but the playoff picture is tangled as four teams – Bolsa, La Quinta, Santiago and Costa Mesa – are tied for second with 2-2 conference marks.
Here are other Friday results by league.
Delta: Tustin defeated Western 34-21.
Epsilon: Crean Lutheran bested Huntington Brach 38-14.
Foxtrot: Aliso Niguel defeated Orange 30-14.
Kappa: Esperanza rolled past Westminster 35-6 and St. Margaret’s handed Garden Grove its eighth consecutive loss, 38-8.
Sigma League: Estancia shutout Ocean View 40-0.
Tango League: Santiago slipped past Loara 27-24 and Costa Mesa won a 48-43 shootout over La Quinta.
