One person was killed and 16 others wounded during a shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama on Sunday morning.
One – identified by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency as Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery – is in custody on federal arms charges, but may not be connected to the shooting.
Classes at the historically black college were cancelled on Monday. The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are joining local authorities in the investigation.
Republicans close to House control
As more races are decided and more votes tallied, both the Republicans and Democrats are posting wins in House of Representative elections, but the former appears to be getting close to a majority.
As of Sunday evening, the GOP now will hold at least 213 seats compared to 203 for the Democrats. To prevail, either party needs 218 seats.
In other political news, Republican leadership in the Senate is vowing to quickly confirm president-elect Donald Trump’s nominations of appointees to cabinet posts and other major government positions.
Sports: Bolts won; Lakers and Ducks do, too
The Los Angeles Chargers continued their winning ways on Sunday, defeating the Tennessee Titans 27-17 at SoFi Stadium.
Justin Herbert passed for 164 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 32 more yards and a score.
The Los Angeles Lakers (6-4) defeated the Toronto Raptors 123-103 as Austin Reaves scored 27 points. Anthony Davis scored 22 points before leaving the game with an eye injury. The Anaheim Ducks (5-7-2) beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 as John Gibson made his first start of the season, getting 38 saves.
Weather: Cooler, then warmer
Veteran’s Day (Monday) will be bit cooler with a daytime high of 69 and an overnight low of 52. But the thermometer will then climb the latter to 71 (47) on Tuesday and 78 (46) on Wednesday, before reversing itself a bit to 75 (51) on Thursday. Skies will be sunny all week.
