A combined effort of the Huntington Beach Police Department’s Homeless Task Force, the Westminster Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad cleaned up a stretch of railway near the San Diego (Intestate 405) Freeway underpass on Wednesday.
According to the HBPD, six arrests were made and homeless persons were taken to the city jail, where they were offered services for housing and battling drug addiction.
Additionally, Union Pacific employees cleaned up “a significant amount of accumulated trash,” restoring the area to its normal condition.
Arrest charges included:
• trespassing on railroad tracks
• trespassing on CalTrans property
• possession of narcotics
• possession of narcotics by someone with prior arrests/convictions
• possession of narcotic paraphernalia
• outstanding warrants.
The location is particularity complicated to serve because it straddles the cities of Huntington Beach and Westminster and property owned by the railroad and the California Department of Transportation.
