A reported 303 soldiers were exchanged between Ukraine and Russia in a prisoner-of-war swap on Sunday a few hours after Russia launched a massive drone-and missile strike on Ukrainian targets.
The attack came in the midst of prisoner exchanges that saw 307 combatants and civilians from each side on Friday and 390 on Saturday.
Russian sources claim that its assault was a response to hundreds of drones allegedly fired at targets in Russia and stated that it had shot down 110 Ukrainian drones.
Another tariff delay is announced
In response to a request from the European Commission, President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would postpone a 50 percent tariff on European goods sold to American markets from June 1 to July 9.
According to The New York Times, the request came from Ursula von der Leyen, president of the EU, who said that talks about lowering trade barriers between the United States and Europe would begin soon and advance “swiftly and decisively.”
Also on Sunday, President Trump criticized Russia’s attack on Ukraine, saying of Russian President Vladimir Putin, “he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all.”
Angels, Dodgers both defeated
After winning eight straight games, the Los Angeles Angels have now lost two in a row, falling 3-0 to the Miami Marlins on Sunday in Anaheim.
The Los Angeles Dodgers lost their sixth game in nine contests on Sunday, falling 3-1 to the New York Mets in the Big Apple.
Combined with the San Francisco Giants’ 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals, the Blue Crew now leads the National League West by one game.
The team (32-21) managed just six hits, but compounded the challenge with four defensive errors. Freddie Freeman had the best day at bat with a single, a double and a walk. Shohei Ohtani hit his 18th homer in the first inning.
Vikings face Westlake
After defeating the Yorba Linda Mustangs 4-0 on Saturday in a CIF-SS Division III semifinal, the Marina Vikings will play play the Westlake Warriors for the championship on Friday at 3:15 p.m.
