The “Big Beautiful Bill” advocated by President Donald Trump is being debated in the U.S. Senate and voting may not begin until 9 a.m. Monday (6 a.m. Pacific time).

According to The New York Times, the bill –reports the Congressional Budget Office – could add as much as $3.3 billion to the national debt to pay for tax cuts.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina spoke against the bill and then announced he was not going to seek re-election,

According to some estimates, the passage of the bill could cause as many as 11.8 million people to lose medical insurance coverage by 2034 by reductions in Medicaid, Medicare and “Obamacare.”

One feature of the bill is to add a national work requirement for some on Medicaid. It would require that before applying, the applicant would have to prove he or she had worked at least 80 hours the month before.

Sniper fire killed two firefighters Sunday in a northern Idaho mountain village.

The Associated Press is reporting that the incident took place around 1:30 p.m. at Canfield Mountain after crews responded to a report of a fire.

No arrests have made and the incident appears to be ongoing. “We don’t know how many suspects are up there and we don’t know how many casualties there are,” said Sheriff Bob Norris. “We are taking active sniper fire as we speak.”

The fire was still burning as law enforcement mobilized to deal with the sniper or snipers.

Sports: Angels fall in 10; Dodgers win

Every time, it seems, that the Los Angeles Angels climb back to .500, they lose the next game. That happened on Sunday when the Halos lost 7-4 to the Washington Nationals in Anaheim in 10 innings.

The loss dropped them to 41-42, but they remain in third place in the AL West as the Texas Rangers (41-43) lost 6-4 to the Seattle Mariners.

In Kansas City, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-1 to improve to 53-32 and open a seven-game lead in the NL West.

Will Smith and Enrique Hernandez homered for the Blue Crew. Justin Wrobleski (4-2) pitched six innings, yielding three hits and no runs. He struck out six and walked one batter.

Weather: Returning to the 70s

But only for a while. Temperatures in our West Orange County cities will be leaving the 80s, only to return next weekend. The forecasts call for partly cloudy skies all week. Monday is expected to have a daytime high of 81 with an overnight low of 61. But on Tuesday, that’ll drop to 79 (62) and then to 78 (63) on Wednesday and 76 (63) on Thursday before rising to 78 (63) on Friday and 80 (63) on Saturday.
