Angels defeat Dodgers in 10

The Los Angeles Angels have not proven themselves to be much of a contender this season, but their credentials as a spoiler are pretty strong, as evidenced by Tuesday’s 10th inning 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in a Freeway Series game in Anaheim.

The Halo win – their sixth in a row over the Dodgers (68-52) – dropped the Blue Crew into a tie for the National League West lead with the San Diego Padres, who defeated the San Francisco Giants, 5-1.

In a game that saw a triple play by the Angels (58-62), and Shohei Ohtani’s 43rd home run of the season, the key play proved to be Jo Adell’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning, driving in Taylor Ward from third with the winning run.

“That was awesome,” Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery said. “These guys never quit, but that was exceptionally not quitting. So many people contributed. … People coming off the bench, people doing different things.”

Among the big contributors in the see-saw game for the Halos was Ward, who hit his 28th home run and was 2-for-5 for the night.

The Dodgers outhit the Angels 11-9 with four batters getting two hits. Dalton Rushing was 2-for-3 with his second home run of the season.
