It’s Marina vs. the Mariners

The most interesting matchup along our High Five football teams may be a challenge for the game announcer.

On Friday at Bolsa Stadium, the Pacifica Mariners (2-1) will host the Marina Vikings (2-1). Mariners … Marina … get it?

Marina, coming off a a win over Fountain Valley, is ranked fourth in our High Five of teams serving our West Orange County cities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

Pacifica (2-1) after a 20-14 win over Northwood of Irvine is fifth.

Our High Five is Edison, Orange, Western, Marina, Huntington Beach and PHS. On the bubble are Huntington Beach (2-1) Westminster (1-2) and Rancho Alamitos (2-0). The rankings are based (in part) on MaxPrep.com’s rating, which factor in strength of schedule and opponent.

Two of our area teams – La Quinta (2-0-1) and Rancho Alamitos (2-0) –are unbeaten. The only winless team is Garden Grove (0-3), but the Argonauts have played a tough schedule.

Here’s this week’s schedule of games. All games are scheduled for 7 p.m., except for the Edison vs. Palos Verdes contest, slated for a 3:30 p.m. start. As always, game times, locations, are subject to change without notice.
