Only have to be best at the end

It’s Not Over Dept.: Dodger fans – and Dodger haters, for that matter – have to be gripped by the season that the Blue Crew is having.

The defending World Series champs, featuring the best baseball player in the world and another-wise rally excellent lineup of all-stars and MVPs, charged out of the proverbial gate.

They were so far ahead that the only drama was whether it was the Padres or the Giants who would finish second in National League West.

However, it was August – not April – that turned out to be the cruelest month. The team, which was playing .600-plus ball, has lately been struggling to break even as injuries and just-plain-weak play has taken them from being the pre-season MLB champ favorite to being the favorite of manufacturers of upset stomach medicines.A couple of exhibits:
• The Angels, last place in the American League Weak … oh, sorry, I mean West division, swept a series from the Dodgers.
• A few days ago, the Dodgers had Shohei Ohtani [remember him? the world’s best player?]on the mound – pitching a no-hitter – and a 4-0 lead. When the pumpkin seed shells had cleared, they lost 9-4.

Ok, well, past isn’t always prologue. The world loves an underdog story, even if it involves the one-time favorite being favored by a dramatic late-season revival.  You only have to be the best at the end.
As we said way back in the opening …
