Outside of the Trinity League … or possibly the NFC West … the toughest football league around is the Alpha League, and our top-ranked High Five team is going back into that fire again on Friday.
Edison (5-2 overall and 0-1 in conference after losing to unbeaten Los Alamitos last week), will take on Mission Viejo (7-1, 1-0). The Diablos are ranked seventh in California; the Chargers are 70th.
If the Oilers can get past the Saints they might get no worse than a tie for the title and a outright crown with a win over fifth place El Dorado (4-4, 1-2) next week.
On Thursday, third-rated Western (5-3, 1-2) will face the Tustin Tillers (7-1, 3-0), who are on a four-game winning streak in a Delta League contest.
With a win the Mariners will play the Portola Bulldogs for the Omicron title next week (5-3, 3-0).
Ocean View (6-2, 2-1) plays Estancia of Costa Mesa (5-3, 1-2) in a Sigma League clash and – also in the Sigma – Rancho Alamitos (5-3, 2-1) has a chance to tie up first in the league when it plays Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana (8-0, 3-0).
On Thursday, Garden Grove (2-6, 0-3) will try to snap a three-game losing streak and climb out of the Kappa League cellar when the Argonauts meet St. Margaret’s (4-4, 1-2).
