Hundreds of flights across the nation on Thursday were ordered to be cancelled in response to an order by the Federal Aviation Commission to reduce traffic at the busiest airports – such as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles – because of the government shutdown.

The cancellations will take effect on Friday and will affect 760 planned flights, according to the Associated Press. The number is expected to continue to increase.

They will affect flights between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. local time; all commercial carriers will be affected.

The government shutdown has reduced the number of air traffic controllers, and those who remain are showing signs of overwork.

Judge orders full food stamp funding

Full payment for users of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), originally known as “food stamps,” have been ordered by a federal judge.

The New York Times is reporting that Judge John J. McConnell, Jr. of the U.S. Court for the District of Rhode Island, ordered the federal government to pay the full amount to patrons, instead of the “half-payment”earlier announced.

The Justice Department has promised to appeal the decision. The judge criticized the Trump Administration for ignoring his earlier decision for the half-payment.

President Donald Trump had earlier said that food stamp payments – now made through a debit card – might end completely until Democrats agreed to a deal to end the shutdown.
