A special meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council is scheduled for noon on Friday.

The closed session is for a conference with legal counsel over anticipated litigation.

The discussion is expected to consider legal concerns arising from the re-hiring of Michael Gates to the municipal city attorney’s office.

Gates resigned his post as city attorney to take a job with the federal Department of Justice, but left it 10 months later. He claims he resigned; documents obtained by journalists indicate he was discharged “for cause.”

The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers in the Civic Center, 2000 Main St. It’s not open to the public.
