Seahawks near soccer title

The Ocean View Seahawks’ girls’ soccer team is one win away from playing for a CIF-SS championship.

After a 4-2 win over Adelanto last Wednesday in a Division 6 quarterfinal contest, the team will meet Palmdale Aerospace Academy at 3 p.m. on Saturday in semifinal play.

OVHS is 12-6-3 overall and the Griffins are 11-1.

The winner of that game will play for the title on Feb. 27 against the winner of the other semifinal, pitting Segerstrom of Santa Ana (13-2-6) against Grace of Simi Valley (14-4-2).

On Saturday, the Marina High girls’ basketball team lost a CIF-SS Division 4 semifinal game to El Dorado, 44-34.
The Vikings finished the season with an 18-14 mark and finished third in the Sunset League.

It’s “play ball” time for both sports

The Huntington Beach Oilers baseball squad, a perennially highly-ranked team in national polls, has opened the season with one win and a tie.

Last year the orange-and-black posted a 24-5 record and was rated 48th in the nation and sixth in California.

The Pacifica High softball team, also often a national power, has started 1-1 after a 7-3 loss to Gahr of Norwalk.

The Mariners played Lakewood on Tuesday and are scheduled to take on Mater Dei on Thursday.

Last year the M’s were ranked 55th in California as they finished with a 15-12 record and were third in the Crestview League.
