A ‘Century of Stars’ at HBHS

TRAVEL BACK in time at “Century of Stars and Stories” at Huntington Beach High (HBUSD).

When the auditorium on the Huntington Beach High School campus first opened in 1926, what’s now “Surf City USA” was just a sleepy beach town with lots of oil wells.

HBHS was the first and only high school in the district (Westminster High didn’t come along until 1959) and the closest other secondary school in Orange County was Garden Grove Union High (1921). One hundred years later that facility – with its iconic bell tower – will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18 in “A Century of Stars and Stories” at 7 p.m.

There will be some light snacks and live music with proceeds going to renovations in the “green room” (where performers wait before going on stage). Cake will be served during intermission.

The auditorium has hosted thousands of performances, assemblies, and countless awards ceremonies for schools throughout HBUHSD, and has served as a scenic backdrop for film.

“The Century” show will feature acts reflecting historical events from 10 decades, crafted to entertain, inspire, and engage the community. This special event will showcase artists who have previously graced the stage, along with current students who regularly perform in the auditorium. There will be performances showcasing musical theater, dance, orchestral music, digital filmography, popular music, and more, all woven together with an historical narrative
