A boy attending La Quinta High School in Westminster was arrested on a variety of charges related to possession of a firearm.
According to Commander Bill Drinnin of the WPD, the incident began on Tuesday.

Just before 10 a.m., the WPD School Resource police officer responded to LQHS regarding a a report of student who had been seen “vaping” on campus.

The student was brought to the principal’s office without incident, but he refused to have his bag searched. He fled the office on foot, but the SRO was able to detain the student off campus.

The youth was searched off campus, and a loaded firearm was found in the student’s belongings. A search of his home turned up no other firearms.

The firearm – a pistol – was found to not have a legally required serial number, making it a “ghost gun.”

The youth was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall for:
• possession of a firearm in a school zone;
• carrying a concealed firearm;
• removal of a firearm serial number;
• resisting, delaying of obstructing a peace officer.

Police believe that this was an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the school or community.
