Take another sterling pitching performance by Yoshi Yamamoto, add in a couple of home runs and a good-enough ninth inning by reliever Edwin Diaz and you’ve got a 3-1 win by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers in a battle between two of the National League division leaders on Friday night.
Yamamoto (12-7) went six strong innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. He struck out nine Brewers and walked two as he lowered his earned-run average to 2.60.
Diaz walked two batters in the ninth but struck out a third to close the door and pick up his seventh save.
Pages had the best night at bat, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Edman was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
The Dodgers are 74-49 and lead the National League West by eight games. The Brewers are 75-48 and lead the National League Central by three games.
Friday’s win squared the team’s last 10 games at 5-5 after a scary stretch in which they lost seven games in a row and had their lead in the NL West chopped from 13 games to eight.
On Saturday the LAD will send Justin Wrobeski (11-4) to the mound against Milwaukee.
