Federal judges rule on election maps and voting by mail

Missouri Republicans were blocked on Thursday by the U.S. Supreme Court from using their new GOP-leaning congressional map

In a one-page order, the Court ‘s action upheld a lower court ruling that the new map – which may have been aimed at eliminating one of two seats in the House of Representatives in the state now held by Democrats – was not constitutional because it had not been approved by voters.

In another election-related decision, President Donald Trump’s executive order limiting voting by mail remained blocked.

The three-judge panel upheld an order issued last week by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani. Many states have already printed their ballots and the first of which have been sent out in Alabama, North Carolina and Wisconsin for the Nov. 3 election.

There should soon be some relief from the high temperatures that rose to 97 degrees on Thursday in West Orange County. The National Weather Service forecast for Friday is for a daytime high of 88 with an overnight low of 71. Saturday is forecast for 86 (84) and Sunday for 84 (68).
