The establishment of an Art Center Committee advanced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council.
On a 5-2 vote – with Councilmembers Andrew Gruel and Chad Williams voting no – the council agreed to bring the item back to the next council meeting for the creation of the committee.
Approved was authorizing a panel of seven to nine residents appointed by two city council liaisons to create the committee to “assist with scheduling events, education classes and curating art exhibitions with national and local artists, in order to enhance the Art Center, promote local artists and coordinate events with the Surf Museum.”
Also on Tuesday, the council approved a contract in the amount of $628,600 with Newbuild Construction and Restoration Inc. for restoration of the Newland House Museum and water tower.
Additionally, the council approved acceptance of $100,000 in state grant funds from the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control for assistance in enforcing laws regulating the sale of alcohol.
The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6.
