A proposal to establish a Little Saigon Community Cultural Center in the Miriam Warne building goes before the Westminster City Council when it meets on Wednesday.
It would involve moving the existing Thu Vien Viet Nam (Vietnamese Cultural Center) from its location in Garden Grove to the Warne building at 14491 Beach Blvd. (at Hazard Avenue).
The building – which formerly housed the Westminster Chamber of Commerce – would offer after-school tutoring, language classes (English and Vietnamese), “social support opportunities” for seniors and a venue for local non-profit groups to hold meetings and events at a low, or no cost.
Under the proposed agreement, there would be a five-year lease beginning on Nov. 1, 2026, with three mutual optional extensions for a total of 20 years.
The lease payment would be $1 annually but the new lessee – VHV Foundation – would pay the utility costs, estimated at $11,311 annually.
Wednesday’s session is a special meeting with a closed session at 4:30 p.m. and the open session at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, 8200 Westminster Blvd.
