The M’s went 5-0 on Saturday and Sunday at the third Annual Bull Run Varsity Tournament in Diamond Bar to take home first place in the Silver Division. Pacifica, a CIF-SS Division 6 team, had to beat five CIF-SS Division 5 teams to take the championship. Two of those teams were ranked in the top ten in the recent CIF poll. The tournament was played in the Diamond Bar area and Pacifica played all its games at Rowland High School. The Mariners are now 12-4 on the season and start league play on Thursday against Cypress High School (Randy Toma photo).
Pacifica High’s football team has risen to the top ranking in its division by the CIF-SS in this week’s poll. The Mariner boys’ water polo team is also doing well, being ranked second in its division.
Here are teams serving the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area which are ranked in polls for fall team sports.
FOOTBALL
- Division 2. Edison is ranked fourth.
- Division 10. Pacifica is first.
- Division 13. La Quinta is third; Ocean View is seventh.
Additionally, Westminster is unranked but did receive some votes in Division 11.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
- Divisions 1 and 2: Huntington Beach is fourth.
- Division 3: Edison is unranked but received votes.
- Division 6: Pacifica is second.
- Division 7: Garden Grove is unranked but received votes.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
- Division 8: Ocean View is ninth.
- Division 9: Orangewood Academy is eighth.
Chargers, Mariners still atop the High Five
Edison and Pacifica high football teams remain the top two teams in this week’s High Five rankings for the Garden Grove-Huntington Beach-Westminster area.
Several locals took the week off and will be back in action this Thursday and Friday. League action will start next week.
