With a 2-1 win over the Athletics in Anaheim, the Angels (32-34) moved to within a half-game of second place behind the Seattle Mariners (33-33) in the American League West.
The Padres (38-28) fell into third, one game back.
At the Big A, Nolan Schanuel’s walkoff single with two out in the 10th brought home Jo Adell with the winning run. He was 3-for-4 on Tuesday and raised his batting average to .284.
Travis D’Amaud had the other Angel run with a homer.
The other Angel hero was Jose Soriano, who pitched seven innings, yielding two hits and one earned run. He struck out 12 and walked two.
