A major step toward redesign of the Civic Center area was taken by the Garden Grove Planning Commission on Thursday evening.
The panel voted 5-0 – with two members absent – in favor of requests for a conditional use permit and other authorizations to build the a police facility of 104,400 square feet adjacent to a parking structure with up to 448 spaces, all at the northeast corner of Euclid Street and Acacia Parkway.
Additionally, a new 2.8-acre park will be created nearby. The current police facility will be demolished.
Also approved is a public hearing for the construction of a three-story, 27-unit residential apartment complex at 9691 Bixby Ave. (between Cathay Circle and Peacock Court).
Three of the units are priced for “very low income” households.
