Trump, Harris make final appeals

VICE PRESIDENT Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump (Wikipedia).

Former president Donald Trump made his closing argument of the 2024 presidential campaign Sunday before a large crowd at NewYork’s Madison Square Garden while Vice President Kamala was seeking to rally voters in Philadelphia, visiting a church, a barbershop,  bookstore, etc.

According to The Associated Press, remarks by Trump and supporters touched on issues and what might be considered remarks bordering on racism and sexism.

“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” asked Trump. The crowd replied, “No!”

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage” and Trump friend David Rem described Harris as “the Antichrist” and “the devil.” Another speaker referred to Harris’ “pimp handlers.”

Harris, aiming at securing the support of swing state Pennsylvania, campaigned across the Keystone State’s biggest state. “We are focused on the future and we are focused on the needs of the American people,” said Harris. “As opposed to Donald Trump, who spends full time looking in the mirror focused on himself.”

She urged voters to go to the polls as early as possible, as the early voting deadline is Tuesday.

Pennsylvania may be the most important “swing” state in the nation. Traditionally Democratic, it went to Trump in 2016, but returned to the pattern by choosing Joe Biden in 2020.

Strikes on Tehran don’t spark reprisal … yet

ISRAELI F-15 fighter-bombers (Wikipedia).

Israeli air strikes on Friday against Tehran, Iran’s capital and largest city, have not immediately prompted a military reaction.

The air raids were in retaliation for missiles fired by Iran at Israel on Oct. 1, according to The New York Times. But they were careful to avoid oil and nuclear sites in the former Persia.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the attacks “should neither be magnified nor downplayed.”
Israel has signaled that an Iranian response might bring a more powerful blow against Iran. “We can do much more,” said Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the Israeli military chief of staff.
