The Trump administration’s struggle with prominent educational institutions was back in the news on Thursday.
The Associated Press reports that the administration has revoked Harvard University’s standing to accept international students.
According to to the AP, the Department of Homeland Security claimed on Thursday that Harvard had created a dangerous environment by “allowing anti-American, pro-terrorist agitators to attack Jewish students on campus.”
There are about 6,800 foreign students on campus and they must either transfer to another college or lose their legal status to remain in the U.S.
The action by HLS is “unlawful” and “retaliatory” was Harvard’s response.
Also on Thursday, President Donald Trump’s order to disband the federal Department of Education was blocked by a U.S District judge on Thursday.
Religious charter school loses
A ruling by a deadlocked U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday let stand a lower-court decision that prevented the establishment of a publicly-funded religious charter school in Oklahoma.
The New York Times is reporting that the vote was 4-4. Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused herself and it’s believed that Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the court’s three liberals for the deadlock.
Supporters of the charter school say that they offer an alternative to other public schools, while opponents say they would violate the separation of church and state.
