A proposal to “co-relocate” the International Surfing Museum to the Main Street Branch Library caught a wave on Tuesday night as the Huntington Beach City Council approved exploring that possibility.
The vote was 7-0.
The museum is currently located at 411 Olive Ave. in the downtown area. That facility is said to be overcrowded and could benefit from more space to show exhibits and store records about the city’s long surfboard-riding heritage.
A move to the Main Street library could make use of some unused space there at 525 Main St., advocates say.
The council’s action was to direct staff to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed move and return to the council within 90 days with findings and suggested next steps.
The next regularly-scheduled council meeting is Tuesday, July 15 in the Civic Center Council Chambers.
