Astros slam the Dodgers 18-1 ; Halos lose game on a bunt

DODGERS and Angels lost on Friday night.

In a battle of division leaders and potential World Series opponents, the Houston Astros on Friday proved they were not overawed by the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Astros brought their A game to Chavez Ravine and smashed the Blue Crew 18-1. The visitors hammered out 20 hits – to the Dodgers’ six – and scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to turn the showdown into what used to be called a “laugher.”

Powered by five home runs, the visitors never trailed and their pitching limited the home team to one extra-base hit, a second inning home run by Will Smith.

In Toronto, the Blue Jays got a walkoff bunt in the 10th inning to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 and again tip them off their .500 status at 43-44.

Ernie Clement’s bunt combined with a wild throw to first brought in the winning run and gave the home team their sixth win in a row.

As for the Angels, trailing 3-0 after six innings, Jo Adell knotted it all up with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh. It was his 19th homer of the season.

The loss didn’t cost the Halos third place in the AL West, as the Texas Rangers lost 3-2 to the San Diego Padres.
