On a warm muggy night at their home stadium, the Bolsa Grande High football team on Thursday night proved to be even hotter than the weather as the Matadors opened the 2025 season with a 66-0 win over the visiting Savanna Rebels.
Anthony Bell rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 67 and 15 yards. The Matadors raced out to a 28-0 first quarter lead and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way, giving new head coach Doug Cooper a win in his first game.
The Matadors will next take on Ocean View on Friday, Aug. 29.
Brady-Kurtz peel Orange
Brady Edmunds passed for three touchdowns – all of them to Steel Kurtz – as the Huntington Beach Oilers defeated the Orange Panthers 35-18 Thursday at Fred Kelly Stadium.
The orange-and-black go for a second straight win when they visit Trabuco Hills next Friday.
Vikings win late vs. Knights
Francis Saporito threw for two touchdowns on Thursday as the Marina Vikings rallied to defeat the Foothill Knights 13-7 at Bill Boswell Stadium.
Next Friday the opponents are the Bruins of Woodrow Wilson High of Long Beach.
In other games on Thursday, Western bested Salesian High of Los Angeles 34-31 and will take on Villa Park next Friday.
