A Long Beach woman has been jailed in connection with a traffic accident Monday that left one bicyclist – a Garden Grove man – dead and two others severely injured.
According to the HBPD, the incident took place near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Newland Street.
Police responded at 6:47 a.m. and found three adult male cyclists in the roadway. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the others taken to local hospitals.
The investigation showed that a gold 2006 Mercedes E-class car struck the cyclists as they rode in the bike lane. The driver was identified as Amber Calderon, 43, of Long Beach. She was arrested about half-mile away from the scene, where she had eventually stopped.
She was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, felony driving under the influence and possession of narcotics.
The bicyclist who suffered fatal injuries was identified as Eric John Williams, 45, of Garden Grove, a pastor at a West Garden Grove church.
