Violent, property crime down

Violent crime is down sharply in Westminster over the past year, as is property crime.

In a report to the city council, the Westminster Police Department reported that through the third quarter of 2024 to the third quarter of 2025, violent crime showed a decline from 311 incidents to 254, a drop of 18.33 percent.

Specifically, homicides declined from three to two (down 33.33 percent). Declines were also reported in robbery (down 15.19 percent), aggravated assault (down 24.19 percent), burglary (down 37.28 percent), larceny (down 19.26 percent) and stolen vehicles (down 16.26 percent).

The only categories in which there were increases were rape (14 incidents to 22, up 57.14 percent) and arson (from nine to 18 incidents, a 100 percent increase).

Property crime overall was down from 1913 incidents to 1517 (a decrease of 20.70 percent). Decreases were reported in burglary (37.28 percent), larceny (19.26 percent), and vehicle theft (16.26 percent).
